Two for the Mail

I will be heading to the post office today to send 2 finished quilts on their way.

The first is a World Cup Soccer Quilt.  This one was so fun to make.  After panicking about the fabric (slick and slippery), I settled down and started stitching.  I love how this turned out.  The center is a big flag and the flag strips are from 2 sets of pennants that were shipped from Brazil.  This quilt is going to live on a big soccer fan's bed.

The second quilt is a t-shirt quilt made out of shirts collected from vacations.  I get tired of doing the same type of t-shirt quilts, so I mixed this one up a little by doing snowballs.  I think it turned out really nice.

Next up on my to-do list is a t-shirt quilt that will be made for my the wife of my friend that passed in June.

Happy Stitching!

Email with Pictures

Yesterday I got an email with a picture attached.

The fun thing about the picture is that it's a t-shirt quilt I made for a active miltary service person.  His mom sent me a box of shirts and I put them all together and returned the finished product.

It's fun to see the quilt with it's recipient.

January 30th...really???

Seriously where did the month go?  It can't be the end of January already, can it???

I did manage to finish 2 quilts this month.  The first is a t-shirt quilt that's already gone to it's home and is for a boy who is graduating in May.

This was my inspiration -

BVNW T-shirts

All of the t-shirts were about 15x15 so that's what I cut all of the big blocks.  I only had a few small blocks to mix in, thus the reason for only 2 skinny rows.

I like how the top turned out.  Definitely will give it a try again.

The pictures of the 2nd quilt are out of focus, so I will try again tomorrow.

T-Shirt Quilt

Happy Thanksgiving.  I feel like a stuffed tick.  Everything was so good though.  All I had to make was green bean casserole.

I've been busy but just haven't felt much like blogging about any of it.  Tonight I will share a t-shirt quilt that I quilt for a first time quilt maker.  She was so excited about her quilt that she literally called me 7 times.  When she came to pick up the quilt she gasped...LOUD.  I finally figured out it was sheer excitement at her quilt being completed and not something horrible.

The cream colored satin is from a pillowcase that her son had as a small child.  My guess is he won't think it's too cool that it made it into his quilt.

Good luck with any Black Friday shopping you might have planned.

Sewing...Finally

Finally finished a quilt top.  I'm pleased with the way it turned out.  Hopefully I will get some time to quilt it this week.  I had 2 people help me obtain t-shirts.  One hit a Target and Wal-mart.  The other hit the local thrift store in Tempe.  Unfortunately I've been out of school way too long for mine to have survived.

The craft show I did Friday was a bust.  I did manage to finish binding on a quilt and ripping stitches on another.  So I guess I can't complain too much.

Have a great week.

Helped Finish

My neighbor made a t-shirt quilt for her daughter for Christmas. I helped her finish it up by doing the quilting and binding. For someone who wasn't too sure about what she was doing, I think she did a great job. I hope her daughter is as excited about the gift.

I used Judy L's binding technique to finish the binding on the machine. Normally I would hand stitch the binding, but because there wasn't enough time, I went the machine route. I'm pretty impressed with the technique. I only had to go back and catch a few sections that I missed. Not to shabby.

I probably won't post again before Christmas. Have a very Merry Christmas! Hope Santa brings everything on your list.
