To Guild or Not???

I broke down and did it last night - joined Starlight Quilter's Guild. Excellent choice on the night to join because Kim Diehl was the guest speaker. What a treat. Kim did a trunk show of her quilts from her Simple Blessings & Simple Traditions books.

Kim is an expert at invisible machine applique. Makes me want to try it again. Instead of using the blind hem stitch, she just uses a very tiny zig zag. Her quilts were absolutely amazing to look at.

Joining the guild for me was a big decision. I belonged to a local guild before Grace was born 4 years ago and left with a bad taste in my mouth. Too many politics. I think my problem at the time was that I was getting way too much of it at work and didn't want to have to deal with the exact same thing in the hobby that I LOVE most. Hopefully this guild won't be the same. Then again, maybe I just need to change my mindset and just let it roll off me and not get involved in the politics. The one thing I did miss by not belonging to a guild was all the show and tell. Unfortunately last night I didn't get to stay for that, but now that I know the time frame these ladies work on I will adjust accordingly.

I'm working from home today. Grace has an eye doctor appoint, which should be an interesting event. She doesn't like going to the doctor, so I have not wanted to tell her what was going on. Last night my husband decided it was time to come clean and let her know. Thank goodness for the Internet because he was able to show her some pictures and she seems good with this whole thing. Seeing pictures and experiencing are 2 different things. We'll see how this works out.

I really hope to do a little bit of sewing this week. It's rough not being able to get down to my "cave" to touch fabric or rev up the machine for a little bit.

That's all for now.

I would love to hear more about your guild experience. I've been thinking of taking the plunge. I'm not sure what's holding me back. I'm glad you had a good time.

Definitely - "To Guild" - I just love my guild and how else would I ever hear some of the remarkable speakers that have been brought in. I have made many friends through the guild and would recommend it to all. As with all groups there are always a few that like to spoil things for the whole - don't let them!!!
